Is a new wing addition to a very modest, one bedroom house on a long skinny lot in Manhattan Beach, CA. The client wanted a flexible design which could be lived in either as a three bedroom single family house, or a two unit (2 bed, 1 bed) duplex.

The proposed addition mirrors the original floor plan creating a central courtyard. This courtyard allows the versatility that the client wanted in the program. It can be used as a green, common area which creates a natural buffer between two units. Or, it can act as an outdoor living room connecting the new wing of the house to the old.
